For this to make sense. You need to know that I am directing the Youth Camp week at Northland Bible Camp this year.
With that being said. Here I go.
With camp getting closer faster then I could have ever imagined, I need to start planning for this week. Something that hit me during this whole planning process is that I am good at this stuff. Yeah, I know, this sounds a bit braggy. But, honestly, I’ve been doing Youth work like this for years up to this point, plus tons I have been working at camp for as many years and have built up a nice resume of experience in this field of work.
What’s the problem with that you might ask? Well from a human stand point. This isn’t a problem. It’s good news for me. I can fall back on my experience and just coast through the week. Easy peasy.
For you “experienced” Christians out there, you know where this is going. So don’t ruin it for the rest and hold the answer in.
There is a verse that has been stuck in my head all night. I found it on a random list of things and ideas for Youth Camp I had made. I have no recollection of adding this verse to that list, But trust me, It was there. Psalms 127:1. This is what is says:
” Unless the Lord builds the house,Psalms 127:1
those who build it labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
the watchman stays awake in vain. “
I think this verse lays it out very well. I can’t rely on my own experience and skillz. The only way this week is going to be more profitable than just of week of being “fun” is if I give control of it over to God. Not that fun is bad, but life is more than just fun. I don’t want to be a watchmen staying awake in vain. Nothing sounds as awful as that. Sleep is my favorite.
With all this being said. It’s late, I need to work tomorrow. So this is the end of this post. My closing remarks are that I need your prayer, and if you have read up to this point it means two things. One, you probably need to go to bed if you are bored enough to read this post. Two, do me a favor while you are still here and take a second and shoot a prayer off for me.
